The Japanese Garden Professional Gardeners
Takumi Yoneyama is a distinguished landscape gardener born in 1972, heading the renowned Kamakura-based company, Yoneyama Teien.
A member of the Japanese Garden Society and Vice-President of the Kanagawa Section, he is one of the few artists who have inherited the traditional techniques of Japanese garden design.
He holds top-level diplomas in garden design, engineering, landscape management, and skill assessment.
With over a hundred traditional gardens created for temples, large companies, and private clients, Yoneyama’s work has been widely recognized. His designs have been featured in numerous television reports and magazines, including the esteemed Japanese trade journal NIWA.
He has also been honored multiple times at the International Rose and Garden Show in Japan and awarded the prestigious Yûshû ginôsha Trophy by Kanagawa Prefecture for excellence in craftsmanship.
In addition to his work in garden design, Takumi Yoneyama is a certified expert in traditional Japanese house architecture. He actively participates in preservation efforts, often relocating traditional houses and complementing them with authentic Japanese gardens.
He is a specialist in tea gardens, with extensive study at the Omote Senke school.
Yoneyama is deeply committed to sharing his expertise with young landscape gardeners and promoting the beauty of Japanese gardens worldwide.

Takahashi Teien, Kokubunji, Tokyo
Makoto Takahashi is a skilled landscape gardener specializing in the art of tea gardens. He heads Takahashi Teien, based in Kokubunji, Tokyo, and has extensive experience in both private and public landscaping projects.
Born in 1973, Date, Fukushima Prefecture.
In 1992, began his career with an apprenticeship at Umei-en, a landscaping company in Tokyo, handling private residential landscaping, public works, and park maintenance.
Trained at Hobara Landscaping Centre Ltd, in 2001, specialized in masonry and landscaping.
In 2003 joined Kukan Construction, leading the landscaping department in exterior construction, landscaping, and garden management for new builds and renovations.
Finally, in 2006 he established Takahashi Teien, focusing on residential landscaping, garden management, and exterior work for homebuilders.
Qualifications
Level 2 Financial Planning Technician: Plans outdoor structures and landscapes based on client lifestyles, environments, and efficient site usage.
Graduate of E&G Academy: Specialized in design, costing, materials, and planning for exterior work and landscaping.
